Apologies

Due to problems with connectivity we were unable to keep the site updated, so we are really sorry to everyone looking here for results.

WA finished 3rd on the ladder, losing only to NSW City and SE Qld. A win in the 1st semi against the ACT saw us play eventual premiers SE QLD in the preliminary final in which we were unfortunatley unsuccessful.

Congratulations go to All Star selections Josh Axcell, Jack Rankin and Christian Smith and Player of the Tournament, Christian Smith.

I will post some of the photos we collected up here shortly.

First Loss

Unfortunately the boys came up against a strong SE QLD side in yesterdays second game and were beaten 127 to 95. At times we failed to capitalise on the chances that were created. Hopefully the boys will be able to learn from the loss and bring the lessons to tonights ACT game.

First Win

The Wolves met last years u14 champions NSW country in their first match at the National championships in Liverpool this morning. The pre-game nerves disappeared immediately when Christian effected a stumping from Ash’s first ball to put Country immediately under the hammer. Unfortunately some wayward bowling gifted the opposition batsmen some free runs to fight back to score 33 from the 1st skin. The second pair looked confident from the start and compiled a wicketless 39 to bring the halfway score to an imposing 72. The Wolves really piled on the pressure in the third skin with tight bowling from Ash, Axe, Blake and Meadie setting up a number of chances that the boys capitalised on, the highlight being a sharp catch by Jacob at mid on to keep the 3rd skin to 15 and the total to 87. With their efforts starting to pay dividends the boys were feeling confident with NSW’s big pair coming in last. The pressure from the bowlers was fantastic though. Greg bowled well, Jacob followed up his first over with another beauty. Captain Sniff really turned the screws, bowling dot balls and wickets and then a run out by Josh A from the first ball of Jack’s over, the 16th, and a catch from Matt in the corner, allowed them to restrict the NSW pair to 20 and the total to a gettable 107.

Again, the first ball of the innings went the Wolves way, being a leg side wide to give Meadie a sighter and get the boys on the board. He and Greg set the tone for the batting, with an excellent, disciplined effort, picking the loose balls off into the nets to finish with a skin of 31. Token and the big Axe were next up, and after losing a wicket off the first ball recovered really well to finish with a skin of 35 with one brutal 5 from the bat of the big Axe. Ash and Blake knew they needed to bat with discipline to bring the last pair within striking distance of the win. A 5 run penalty against NSW for time-wasting reduced the required skin to 10 which the boys beat with ease with a skin of 27 to bring the total to 93 and the asking skin for the last pair to 10 to take the game. Once again the discipline showed through with sensible batting from Jack and Christian taking them to the lead in the 14th over, a lead they never relinquished. The final score 119-102.

Though the boys did win easily, there is still plenty of room for improvement and we look forward to some great performances coming up.

AAROOOO!! GO WOLVES

We made it

Finally.

After a long late flight we arrived at Sydney Airport early Wednesday morning. After a (unintentional) scenic tour of the airport in the tour buses we finally made our way out to Liverpool, only to find the road blocked by a traffic accident. We dropped in for a quick look at the centre before finally heading out to our digs around lunchtime. The boys had barely time to settle in before racing off to the first training session. Everyone is well and all looking forward to starting the tournament in earnest.

WISH US LUCK!!!!!
